Philanthropic contributions are affected by the downturn, and the pot from grant-giving bodies is getting smaller than it has been in recent years. This all comes at a time when museums are more popular than ever and are working harder to make their collections more accessible. For example, the internet is hailed as the great next stage in developing online access to collections.
